28th March 2004, Brixton, London, England.

Having had a few beers as you do, we joined the tail end of a large queue of people entering the venue. The next stop was to get a lil drink from the bar as all that walking is a thirsty job as we all know!

Noises came from the stage to indicate something was happening, so it was time to make our way to the pit, we manage to get 2/3 rows back just right of centre stage. Then it happened the support act came on - WOW - is what kinda came to mind, the act going by the name of The Tarentinos. OK so you got it, doing covers of music from Tarentinos movies. Now I am sure there is a place for an act like this, but I have to say along with the rest of the crowd, this was not the time or place, they went down like a 10,000kg sack of shit. I guess that you can't get it right all the time and this time these were definitely not right.

By now the crowd seemed a little disappointed if not pissed off and relieved when they vacated the stage.

The time now was 9pm, the lights went low and Re-entry began to play, with this behind the curtain covering the stage you could see life and the crowd screamed. As the guitar of re-entry started the curtain dropped, this time the crowd surged forward and buzzed with pure excitement limpbizkit were there playing live in all their glory and pure force.

The guys played hard and rocked lighting up the whole venue Fred giving his usual full on energy to the gig and the crowd. The set list I don't remember for either night, but it did vary a little, there was more from the new album than we seen at the Finsbury park gig in September 2003 but it was noted that 'rollin' was performed this time, so Mike must have been practising hard. Fred did his usual of in the crowd and pulling people on stage, the place was alive.

On the down side about it was the crowd, being in the front few rows was the worse place on this night, the crowd did nothing but surge and sway, it almost seemed like the crowd was there for being assholes rather than the music, to even the best experienced mosh pit goer you just could not mosh and spent a lot of your time saving yourself. This was the spoil of the gig, the band where excellent, but the crowd manage to kick the ass Outta it and make it not the most enjoyable night and this was said by many.

29th March 2004, Brixton, London, England.

So yes we did do both nights one after the other, now as I write I will take you have read the above. We arrived this time around 8.15pm to make sure no waiting outside had to be done. The Tarentinos where playing so after the previous night it was a lets stay in the bar and just chill and talk to anyone and everyone. The crowd of this night gave a similar response to the Tarentinos as the previous night, but not so aggressive towards them.

So time now was 8.45 and it was time to make our way to the front. Tonight we decided to go to the right of the stage front. This was a good choice, straight down there and row 2 was achieved with little difficulty. 9.00pm came and no band, 9.05 and still no show but then at 9.10pm Re-entry began and we all knew this was time. The guitar kicked and the band where behind the curtain, but the curtain stayed up, it stayed up for the whole track, now if I didn't know better I would say a technical fault and it came down late, but who I am to say!

When the curtain did drop tonight the crowd roared, but with more enthusiasm for the music rather than that of the previous night that seemed different. All I am going to say is the overall performance was as you expect from the band, but it seemed like Fred had turned it down a notch towards the crowd and he was not in the crowd as on the previous night. Now this makes you wonder did they become aware of the previous night being full of wankers which is my guess, a huge shame as the crowd tonight was so much better, more into the music and the buzz of the atmosphere. But all in all a better night I will say the chance was there to mosh and enjoy without the risk of a crush.

OK this review is written a little different from before, but you will see other reviews on this gig so that's why we have covered it from a slightly different angel. I will say based on the last 3 limpbizkit gigs, Finsbury Park is still at the Top, then the 29th March, then the 28th March, the reason the 28th is @ 3 is due to a shit crowd, I am sure if it wasn't for that I would put it at joint #1 with Finsbury.

There was a lot of hype surrounding this show due to the phenomenal success that was ‘Finsbury Park’. The fans were not disappointed. The opening act for limpbizkit were a cover band called The Tarantino’s, who in all fairness were not bad, just in the wrong place at oh so the wrong time. Shame. They did their thing and left the stage. A mini sound check from Fred and 30 minutes later at 9pm the lights go down…the riff for Re-Entry kicks in and the crowd goes insane and surges forward. Re-Entry was played very well and sounded really good in the small Academy; Fred launched us straight into My Generation, which just kept up the energy in the crowd but already the pit was getting extremely crowded. After this I have absolutely no idea about the order in which songs were played. A list of the songs looks like this (in no order whatsoever):

  • 1. Re-Entry
  • 2. My Generation
  • 3. Hot Dog
  • 4. Break Stuff
  • 5. Eat You Alive
  • 6. Nookie
  • 7. Take A Look Around
  • 8. Underneath The Gun
  • 9. My Way
  • 10. Counterfeit
  • 11. You Know You’re Right
  • 12. Almost Over
  • 13. Lonely World
  • 14. Faith
  • 15. Re-Arranged
  • 16. Hound Dog (Elvis Cover)
  • 17. Behind Blue Eyes
  • 18. Rollin’

So the selection of songs was frankly, brilliant and they were played with the typical energy and style that you come to expect from limpbizkit. Most notably Fred mentioned that the UK crowd had “Smoked the rest of Europe on the first two songs” and the set needed changing to accommodate how mad the crowd were going. It was a truly brilliant show that was let down by the crowd, there were far too many people who had gotten in with fake tickets from those prick ticket touts outside the gig.

This took away some of the enjoyment because it got so hot, crowded and crushed in the pit. Myself personally ended up lifting a 13-year-old kid out of there as he was getting crushed right in front of me. All in all it was a superb high-energy show that couldn’t be enjoyed to its full because of overcrowding. Also to quash any rumours of Fred fighting with a fan, some guy in the crowd held up a sign saying “Get back to your roots, 3 Dollar Bill – Bring THAT beat back”, which wasn’t needed and Fred promptly spat on the guy, I say well done Fred and the rest of the band, you were all truly on top form.

For those returning for this 2nd show in the UK, there was hope and nerves more than anything. The chaos that ensued the night before surely couldn’t happen again. Thankfully it didn’t.

The Tarantino’s did their thing again and the crowd reacted much more warmly to them, actually cheering and just enjoying the music. Towards the end of the set a few people did start to shout to them to get off but they actually managed to complete their set this time.

Same thing as the previous night from Fred then, with a mini sound check and another quite long wait for them to start. limpbizkit started with Re-Entry again but this time launched straight into “Gimme The Mic” with Fred prompting the crowd by shouting “Gimme a Mother Fucking mic y’all!” again sending the much better crowd this time, into a frenzy and instead of a surge peoples hands went into the air and people were jumping around and the pit was how it should’ve been, you could actually go in and out when you wanted.

The gig atmosphere was a lot lighter and not anywhere near as hostile, claustrophobic or dangerous and it was possible this time to have fun.

The set list was slightly different with the omission of a couple of songs and the addition of “Gimme The Mic”. This show was truly much better in my opinion just because of the fact you could enjoy it more and do your own gig thing that you do. Counterfeit and the Elvis cover of Hound Dog were not played but that wasn’t a bad thing. All in all a truly superb weekend and I’d like to thank those of whom accompanied me to the gigs, they know who they are, they contributed to how much of a good time was had by all. Thanks one and all. Obviously a big thanks to limpbizkit for playing and playing so damn well, you guys rocked. Pete, next time, lets do lunch…
